The Taoyuan Airport metro line has begun the second phase of its month-long trial period. From Thursday, passengers can try out the new service connecting Taipei Main Station with Taoyuan Airport 40 kilometers away without reservations.
Lines began forming at 5:00 am, nearly three hours before the first train of the day was scheduled to depart. To prevent crowding, the airport metro company said it will limit the number of passengers per train to 300 through the end of the trial period. For the rest of the period, passengers will be chosen by lottery.
Taoyuan Airport has launched a check-in and bag drop service at Taipei Main Station to coincide with the launch of the second trial period.
The airport metro line is slated to begin regular service on March 2.
