Taipei--Agricultural losses in Taiwan from days of torrential rain last week totaled NT$96.14 million (US$3.15 million), the Council of Agriculture (COA) said on Thursday.
The figure was revised upwards from an earlier estimate of NT$60.11 million on Tuesday.

Crop damage accounted for most of the losses, with 3,444 hectares of farmland costing NT$79.38 million, the COA said, noting that included 2,169 hectares of rice paddies and NT$36.56 million in related damages.
Other crops hit by the heavy rain included persimmons, lychees, grapes, and watermelons, it added.
Meanwhile, damage to agricultural facilities is estimated at NT$16.76 million.
The COA said it will offer subsidies to farmers whose crops were damaged by the torrential rain.
Agricultural produce and areas covered by the subsidy program include rice paddies, lychees, wax apples and sesame cultivation in Yunlin County and Chiayi City and County.
Special low interest loans will also be available to rice and peanut farmers in Yunlin County, and rice, lychee, wax apple and sesame farmers in Chiayi County, it added.
