Nov 21, 2017 Business & Finance Comments Off on Annual Japan-Taiwan trade conference opens in Tokyo
The 42nd annual Japan-Taiwan Economic and Trade Conference has opened in Tokyo.
Representing Taiwan at the conference are officials from the foreign ministry, as well as economics and agriculture officials.
Between 50 and 60 topics are on the agenda. These include economic policy, agriculture, forestry, aquaculture products, and intellectual property rights. However, a source closely involved with the conference says the Taiwanese side has no plan to discuss restrictions on Japanese food imports put in place after the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Meanwhile, an unnamed member of the Taiwanese delegation says an agreement may be signed on customs matters and cultural exchanges. The source says a memorandum of understanding could be signed Wednesday, the second and final day of the conference. However, the source says the details of the memorandum are still under discussion.
