Taipei, An unexpected power outage occurred Wednesday afternoon, leaving more than 70,000 households in parts of Miaoli County and Taichung without electricity, according to Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower).
Su Ying-hsien (???), Taipower Service Center's Miaoli Branch deputy chief, said the massive blackout occurred at 3:12 p.m. when a high voltage line at a power plant in the county's Tongxiao Township tripped.
A total of 70,391 households in Tongxiao, Yuanli, Sanyi and Tongluo townships in Miaoli and the neighboring Rinan village in Taichung suffered a power outage as a result, Su said.
He said power was restored at 4:38 p.m. following emergency repairs.
