Feb 22, 2017 Business & Finance Comments Off on China to hold Taiwanese fraud suspects deported from Spain
China says it plans to hold more than 200 Taiwanese fraud suspects arrested in Spain.
The announcement comes several days after the Spanish government decided to send the suspects to China.
An Fengshan, spokesperson for Beijing's Taiwan Affairs Office said Wednesday that both the victims and the evidence are located in China. An said that holding the alleged perpetrators and trying the case in China will help combat telecom fraud.
Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council has already issued a protest against the move, saying that Taiwan has complete jurisdiction over the case. The Mainland Affairs Council says that Beijing's unilateral actions harm the basis of cross-strait trust and cooperation and ignore Taiwan's calls for each side to try its own suspected criminals.
