Defense Minister Feng Shih-kuan says a number of Chinese military aircraft have flown from the Bashi Channel towards the Pacific Ocean. The channel is the waterway that separates Taiwan from the Philippines.
Feng was speaking at the legislature on Wednesday. Feng later left the legislature to keep a close watch on the Chinese aircraft. Defense ministry spokesperson Chen Chung-ji explains
"There were many [Chinese aircraft] today, so the defense minister and relevant agencies took this very seriously. When the minister was attending a legislative interpellation, he was also keeping an eye on the monitoring of this situation," Chen said.
Chen said that the defense ministry keeps close watch on the moves of the Chinese military and will act according to set rules in any situation.
Taiwan is still observing to see if the Chinese aircraft, will circle around Taiwan. Feng said the defense ministry will keep the public updated on the situation.
