The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) went up 2.82 points in November to 86.16, the highest level in 28 months. That's the word from the Research Center for Taiwan Economic Development at National Central University.
The six factors measured by the index all went up. Those include the outlook for consumer prices, stock investment, employment, durable goods, the domestic economy and household income. The score for stock investment opportunity was 105.2, the highest since May, 2015. Employment opportunities also scored high, at over 100.
Researcher Wu Da-ren said that the stock market has been over the 10,000 mark for a long time. Exports have been growing and the economy has been performing well. He said pay raises for government workers and teachers have also helped boost consumer demand.
These adjustments have helped our domestic demand. After the policy was announced, it took a little time to take effect. From the consumer confidence perspective, most people affirm the performance of the current administration," said Wu.
Wu said that people still need to be on the watch, though, as interest rates in the US will rise in December. If they rise more than expected, it could have an impact on the stock market.
