CORONAVIRUS/NGO solicits donations of COVID-19 rapid test kits for orphanages

A non-governmental organization in Taiwan issued a call Wednesday for people to donate COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits for use at orphanages around the country, which it said would help safeguard the health of underprivileged children.

In a press release, the Taipei-based Waiting Children Council of Social (??????????) said it has been working with some 30 orphanages where there is high demand for rapid tests, amid the current COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

Local governments have promised to send free test kits to the orphanages, but there have been delivery delays due to limited supplies, the NGO said.

The orphanages need a total of 2,400 rapid test kits per month, as that they constantly have to screen the children and employees there, as well the social workers and others who have close contact with the children, according to the NGO.

The social welfare organization said it is seeking public donations of up to 7,000 COVID-19 rapid test kits, which would supply the 30 orphanages for at least three months, in case the domestic outbreak continues for that period.

Donations can be made via the NGO by calling 02-2771-3010, it said.
