Taoyuan reported six new domestic COVID-19 cases on Friday, all of which were related to previous clusters, the city’s mayor Cheng Wen-tsan (???) said Friday.
At a morning briefing held by the city, Cheng said one of the newly confirmed infected individuals, who tested positive in quarantine, was connected to the airport cluster that triggered Taiwan’s most recent COVID-19 outbreak.
Another of those added to the list was a family member of a taxi driver who was part of a singing club cluster.
The individual works as a chef at a Thai Town Cuisine branch in Taoyuan, and the restaurant has been closed to be disinfected.
After the case was confirmed, 11 of the chef’s contacts were relocated to a quarantine facility and 10 others were required to follow protocols on monitoring and managing their own health.
The other four cases were linked to the biggest cluster in Taoyuan sparked by the airport cluster, involving a Union Bank of Taiwan branch in the city’s Zhongli District.
The four were the boyfriend of one of the bank’s employees, the mother of another worker, a student who works at a steakhouse, and a bank employee’s husband who lives in New Taipei.
The mayor said the boyfriend works at a logistics company, leading to four of his co-workers having to face home quarantine and another being ordered to stay at home and continue to monitor his health.
All three family members who reside with the second employee and the employee’s mother have been taken to a quarantine location as well.
The student involved in the cluster is enrolled at Taoyuan Municipal Jhongli Commercial High School and works part-time at a Tasty steakhouse branch, which hosted the Union Bank branch’s year-end celebration that caused the spread.
Five family members of the student, as well as 34 contacts including classmates and teachers, have all been taken to a quarantine location following the student’s COVID-19 confirmation.
The student’s vocational high school will be closed for the next two weeks, and classes have been suspended at the district’s Dongsing Junior High School and Hsin-Yi Elementary School until next week as a precaution because the student’s relatives attended those schools.
The final case linked to the bank cluster was traced to and documented in New Taipei, Cheng said.
According to New Taipei’s Department of Health, the confirmed case is a resident of the city and the husband of an employee at the bank who previously tested positive.
Contact tracing has identified people who may have been at risk of exposure to the virus from the New Taipei resident, and those individuals have all been tested, the department said.
Places the contacts visited have also been disinfected, the department said.
