Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan (???) on Sunday said his government would fine a person who fled home quarantine and flew to Kinmen NT$300,000 (US$10,775).
The person, of whom Cheng did not provide any personal details, was in mandatory home quarantine after several colleagues of theirs at the Askey Computer Corp. tested positive for COVID-19, according to the mayor.
However, Taoyuan police discovered that the person had fled home quarantine and boarded a flight to Kinmen Saturday afternoon, Cheng said, after which Taoyuan government officials immediately contacted their counterparts in Kinmen.
Around an hour and a half later, officials then tracked down the person and placed him in a quarantine hotel in the outlying county at 5:30 p.m., according to the Kinmen County Government.
A PCR test for the quarantine jumper was negative for COVID-19, officials said.
According to Kinmen County Government Secretary-general Chen Xiang-lin (???), the person is not a Kinmen resident and was simply traveling to visit a friend.
All the places the person visited have been disinfected, he said, while also condemning the home quarantine breaker for potentially putting other people at risk.
