Taipei, The first phase of the Danhai Light Rail Transit will be completed by the end of the year and the system will begin operations in June 2019, the New Taipei Metro Corporation (NTMC) said Wednesday.
With construction of the Green Mountain Line expected to be completed by the end of December, a digital wallet service will be introduced for the convenience of passengers when the line begins operations next June, the company said.
Nine mobile payment services -- Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, iPASS x LINE Pay, Ali Pay, Union Pay, Garmin Pay, Fitbit Pay and Hami Pay -- are being considered, the company said.
Construction of the light rail transit system, the first of its kind in northern Taiwan, began in November 2014 with the goal of easing traffic congestion in Tamsui, a district that has been seeing rapid population growth.
Trials runs began in May on the Green Mountain Line, the first phase of the project, and 120 volunteers have been recruited in preparation for the start of commercial operations, the NTMC said.
