Taiwan's defense ministry is reporting that a Chinese TU-154 reconnaissance aircraft traveled near Taiwan on Saturday. That was the first such pass by a Chinese military aircraft near Taiwan following the end of the Chinese Communist Party's 19th National Congress on October 24.
The plane was spotted flying through the Miyako Strait east of Taiwan on a long-distance training mission. Taiwan's military said it was on high alert during the flight and had closely monitored the situation.
The military urged the public to remain calm, saying it is continuing to closely monitor all movements near Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). It said that it would continue to protect the security and safety of Taiwan's airspace and seas.
