An international travel website Booking.com on Thursday published a list of tourist attractions in Taiwan that it described as prime locations for Christmas photographs.
In a press release, the website detailed the charms of five sites across the country, ranging from the Taipei 101 skyscraper in the north to the banks of the Tainan Canal in the south.
At Taipei 101 and its surrounding areas, there are more than 50 sites decorated with Christmas lights, including a giant star sponsored by French luxury fashion house Christian Dior, which are great backdrops for avid and amateur photographers, the travel agency said.
Other photographic attractions in that bustling shopping and business district include a 17-meter tall Christmas tree near Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi Place A11 and winter-themed installations in nearby malls, according to Booking.com.
In central Taiwan, a uniquely Taiwanese tree has been erected in front of Taichung Railway Station, featuring multicolored light globes that depict tapioca “boba” balls, a quintessential Taiwan dessert, the website said.
Nearby, there is a weekend market that specializes in Christmas-themed merchandise and foods, it added.
Also in southern Taiwan, a nighttime wonderland has been created in front of the Dream Mall in Kaohsiung, where three evenings of musical entertainment will be held, from Christmas Eve to Dec. 26, the travel agency said.
On the northeast coast of Taiwan, a series of religious themed parades are being held in Yilan, featuring light floats depicting biblical stories such as the Nativity and the sermons of Jesus Christ, whose birth is celebrated on Dec. 25 by Christians across the world.
Bookings.com, an international online travel agency based in the Netherlands, said its recommendations were compiled by calculating internal data and statistics.
While Christmas is not an official holiday in Taiwan, it is recognized as an opportunity for the display for creative lighting and other installations and for increased commerce throughout the country, particularly this year, as it falls on a weekend.
One of the major attractions in Taiwan during this season is Christmasland, which can be seen in Hualien County and New Taipei City, featuring multiple audio and visual presentations and vibrant Christmas shopping.
