Sep 09, 2018 Culture Comments Off on Government prepared for extremely heavy rain: Tsai
Taipei, Sept. 9 (CNA) A heavy to extremely heavy rain warning was issued Sunday evening for eight cities and counties around Taiwan as President Tsai Ing-wen (???) said that the government has completed preparations to minimize the possible effects of the rain.
The Central Weather Bureau issued the warning for Keelung City, Taipei, New Taipei, Yilan County, Hualien County, Taitung County, Kaohsiung and Pingtung County.
There is a chance of extremely heavy rain in mountainous areas in New Taipei and Yilan County, while residents in areas covered by the warning are advised to be vigilant for lightning strikes, gale force winds, landslides and rockfalls, rising river levels and flooding, the bureau said.
In a Facebook post Sunday, Tsai said the government has activated disaster prevention and mitigation plans, with rubber dinghies, pumps, and other flood relief equipment ready to be deployed in affected areas at short notice, and 4,000 soldiers available for deployment.
Tsai reminded people to take precautions and check the government's advisory to where possible avoid being affected by the extreme weather.
