Taipei, The Hualien County government said Wednesday that it has collected NT$2.1 billion (US$73.29 million) in donations from home and abroad for disaster relief in the wake of a magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck the eastern county Feb. 6.
On Wednesday alone, the county government received more than NT$22 million in relief donations, according to Chen Wen-chi (???), the head of the county's Bureau of Social Affairs.
Of the total NT$2.1 billion received so far, NT$20 million has come from donors in Japan, Chen said.
The county government will stop accepting earthquake relief donations on March 31 and will publish a full statement of the disbursement on its website, he said.
The Feb. 6 Hualien earthquake resulted in the death of 17 people and left 291 injured.
