Taipei--An Indonesian member of the crew on a Taiwan-registered freighter died Wednesday at a health station in Taiwan's Orchid Island, after allegedly suffering a heat stroke, according to coast guard officers.
The freighter, the Chu Lung (???), which operates between Orchid Island and Fugang Fishery Harbor in Taitung County, sent out an emergency call at 10 a.m. Wednesday after it arrived in Orchid Island, the coast guard said.
The freighter reported that one of its crew members, an Indonesian, had apparently suffered a heat stroke, according to the Coast Guard Administration's Eastern Coastal Patrol Office.
Coast guard officers took the man to a health station on the island, but resuscitation efforts failed and he was pronounced dead at around noon, the coast guard said.
Officials said the body of the Indonesian man, whose name was not disclosed, was shipped back to Fugang Fishery Harbor Wednesday evening.
