Taipei, Feb. 11 (CNA) An Indonesian crew member of a Taiwan fishing boat died after reportedly falling overboard from the vessel on which he was working in waters off the outlying county of Penghu Sunday, triggering a search that ended when the man's body was found washed ashore south of a local airport.
The county Fire Bureau said the dead man was one of four Indonesian crew members on the Cimei Township, Penghu-registered fishing boat, Fajilong 168, which set sail from Cimei at about 9 a.m. Sunday.
The man allegedly slipped and fell overboard when the boat was in rough waters. The skipper, identified only by his surname Hsia (?), immediately called the bureau for help.
Two vehicles and seven personnel were dispatched by the bureau on a search and rescue mission, which also involved the coast guard, National Airborne Service Corps and nine fishing boats from Cimei, before the body of the Indonesian crew member was spotted south of Cimei Airport.
An investigation into the cause of the incident is being conducted by police and prosecutors.
