Taipei, Israeli cyclist Edwin Avila Vanegas won the third stage of the Tour de Taiwan 2018 Tuesday, finishing the 156.3-kilometer race with a time of 3 hours, 49 minutes and 33 seconds.
Avila Vanegas also received the green jersey, which is awarded to general individual classification on points. There is also the yellow jersey, which indicates the overall leader, and the blue jersey, which denotes the leading Asian athlete.
Avila Vanegas said he gathered many fans after last year's event, which felt great, adding that "of course its time to move up and take the yellow jersey."
Hakka Romantic Avenue -- the name of the event's third stage -- saw the competitors kick off near the Hsinchu High Speed Railway Station.
The route took them past various points of interest, including Guansi Township, the Lion's Head Mountain Scenic Area and the Nanzhuang Visitor Center, finishing at the Shigang Visitor Information Center in Taichung.
After the day's race, the yellow jersey was awarded to Jonathan Clarke of Unitedhealthcare Professional Cycling Team from the United States, while the blue jersey was awarded to Yukiya Arashiro of the Japan National Team.
The best-performing Taiwanese cyclist in the third stage was Chen Chien-chou (???) of Taiwan's RTS Racing Team, who was ranked 45th.
The fourth stage of the tournament, which covers a distance of 166.56 km, will start from Nantou County Hall and finish at the Xiangshan Visitor Center at Sun Moon Lake.
