Taipei, Japanese cyclist Yukiya Arashiro emerged as the leader Wednesday in the 2018 Tour de Taiwan in Nantou County, claiming the yellow jersey.
Arashiro completed the fourth stage of the cycling competition in third place, riding 166.56 kilometers in a time of three hours, 59 minutes and 22 seconds.
He said he was up against strong opponents and was very happy to be wearing the yellow jersey at the end of the day.
"For a long time, I hadn't been delivering good results," Arashiro said. "The last time I had such a good performance was two years ago."
Cameron Bayly of Australia won the fourth stage race in a time of 3:59:16, closely followed by Cameron Piper of the United States in 3:59:18.
The fourth stage of the tournament started at Nantou County Hall and finished at the Xiangshan Visitor Center at Sun Moon Lake.
The best-performing Taiwanese cyclist in the fourth stage race was Feng Chun-kai (???), who finished 35th.
The fifth and also the last stage of the tournament, which covers a distance of 192.8 km, will start Thursday in front of Pingtung County Hall and finish at Dapeng Bay Tourist Center.
