Kaohsiung-Following in Taipei and New Taipei's footsteps, Kaohsiung banned smoking on covered walkways outside 1,023 shops that belong to 19 convenience store, fast food and coffee shop chains with effect from Sept. 1, Kaohsiung's Department of Health said Monday.
Smoking has been prohibited outside 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Hi-Life, OK Mart and Simple Mart, the department said.
In addition, no smoking is allowed outside Starbucks Coffee, Donutes, Crown & Fancy, Louisa Coffee, 85C Daily Cafe, Chiyang Coffee, McDonald's, KFC, Mos Burger, Dandan Hamburg, Pizza Hut, Domino's Pizza, Napoli Pizza, or Subway, the city's health department said.
After a three-month grace period, offenders will be fined between NT$2,000 (US$318) and NT$10,000 in accordance with the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, the department said.
Similar regulations were implemented in Taipei and New Taipei from Sept. 1.
