Members of the public will be able to watch live sessions of Taiwan's Legislature and legislative committees on two dedicated television channels. The channels will be available to both cable and terrestrial TV viewers.
The legislative president, Su Jia-chyuan, said the channels will have a high level of coverage, without the interruption of commercials. He also said they will feature a sign language service for deaf viewers.
Su said the head of Guatemala's parliament was considering similar broadcasts after a recent visit to Taiwan.
He also said he hoped the live broadcasts would lead to more harmonious legislative proceedings. This is a presumed reference to the numerous incidents of fighting in the legislature that have made international headlines in the past.
