Taipei, A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck central Taiwan at 9:38 p.m. Thursday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
No damage or casualties were immediately reported.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 29.1 kilometers south of Nantou County Hall at a depth of 12.5 km, the bureau's Seismology Center said.
The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, measured 5 in Yunlin County's Gukeng Township on Taiwan's 7-level intensity scale, the center said.
The earthquake was also felt in Nantou County's Xinyi Township and Yunlin's Caoling and Douliu townships, where it registered an intensity of 4, while an intensity of 3 was recorded in Chiayi City and County, Changhua County, Taichung, and Tainan, the center added.
