On the eve of Beijing International Tourism Expo 2014, Mayor Hau Lung-bin joined celebrity Mike He in promoting the 2014 Taipei Shopping Festival in a press event at Fairmont Beijing Hotel on June 26.
The event kicked-off amid exiting drumming performance by Taiwan-based U-Theatre. The mayor took the opportunity to invite Beijing residents to visit the capital of the island and indulge themselves in a spending spree. Running from August 1 through September 15, the 2014 Taipei Shopping Festival offers preferential deals every week, incorporating 10 department stores, 10 commercial districts, 100 Taipei businesses, and 2,880 partnering stores. A pamphlet containing various coupons for the festival will be available at Taoyuan International Airport for arriving tourists. Those who stay at six selected hotels can also enjoy free shuttle services. According to Hau, Taipei ranks among the 20 most recommended cities to visit and tops the Chinese-speaking world in the amount of spending by international travelers. In addition, Taipei boasts a pleasant and quality shopping environment enhanced by a convenient transportation network which comprises bus, YouBike, and MRT. Echoing the mayor’s remarks, actor Mike He noted that his friends from overseas were impressed with the city’s agreeable transport, unique commercial districts, and the wide variety of tasty cuisine. A gourmet himself, the celebrity unveiled to the audience that Taipei will attend the Food Expo in Hong Kong (August 14-18) and Taiwan Trade Fair in Beijing (November 7-10). The city’s booth promises an array of Taiwanese delicacies spanning beef noodle, confectionery, bubble tea, and night market snacks.
