Jan 11, 2017 Market Comments Off on Move by Chinese aircraft carrier unhelpful to cross-strait ties: MAC
Mainland Affairs Council Minister Katharine Chang says that the recent movement of a Chinese aircraft carrier into the Taiwan Strait will not be helpful to cross-strait ties.
On Wednesday morning, a group of Chinese ships let by the Liaoning aircraft carrier sailed in the Taiwan Strait. The defense ministry says the fleet entered Taiwan's air defense identification zone, but stayed west of the medial line that runs down the Taiwan Strait.
Chang spoke at a press conference at the Mainland Affairs Council on the incident. I would like to stress the fact that our government has the full ability to safeguard our nation, and that there is no need to panic," she said. "At the same time, we feel that any form of threat will not be helpful to cross-strait developments. The two sides of the Taiwan Strait should express goodwill to each other to contribute to cross-strait peace.
