Taipei--An environmental activity to raise public awareness about plastic pollution and preventing marine litter will be held at Dongshih fishing harbor on Saturday, Chiayi County Environmental Protection Bureau said on Friday.
Working in collaboration with Fengtian Temple, a local seabed cleansing operation will be carried out by coast guard divers in the area. They will be accompanied by groups of sea goddess Mazu worshippers who also believe in promoting a healthier ocean for future generations.
Another group of worshippers on land will carry a statue of Mazu around the harbor to offer blessings for the day's event.
Other activities including performances, waste recycling and a pigeon release will also be staged at Dongshih harbor.
