Taipei--The list of casualties caused by a gas explosion at a restaurant in Feng Chia shopping area, Taichung on Tuesday has been updated to one dead and 15 injured, after fire fighters discovered a charred body when clearing the scene, the city's Fire Bureau said.
The body of an unidentifed female, was found in the bathroom of a rented suit apartment on the second floor of the building that houses the first floor restaurant, officials said, noting that the police and fire authorities are currently trying to identify the victim.
An investigation is being conducted to determine what caused the explosion, city officials added.
The fire broke out at the restaurant on Xi'an Street in Xitun District shortly after noon, following a gas explosion, which is currently being viewed as a possible gas leak, according to the Fire Bureau.
Although firefighters dispatched to the scene had the fire under control within half an hour, 14 people were injured by the blast and resulting fire, five severely, and taken to local hospitals in ambulances.
One person did not seek medical assistance at the scene but later fell ill and visited a local hospital for a checkup, the bureau said.
