Taipei--President Tsai Ing-wen (???) said Tuesday that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), innovation and entrepreneurship are areas in which Taiwan can show its competitiveness.
At a time when countries around the world are facing tremendous pressure from counter-globalization, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum is attaching more importance to SMEs, e-commerce, innovation, entrepreneurship and food security, Tsai said during a meeting with Taiwan's representatives to the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).
This year, the Taiwan-proposed APEC Online-to-Offline Initiative will hold six events in Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines, allowing more exposure for up-and-comers from Taiwan and helping to consolidate Taiwan's leading position on SME issues, she said.
The president noted that APEC is currently the highest-level intergovernment organization in which Taiwan participates and she urged the representatives to make good use of ABAC to help the country's businesses comply with international standards and create more business opportunities.
