Search continues for Vietnamese sailor missing off Yunlin coast

Rescuers are still searching for a Vietnamese sailor who fell overboard around 7 nautical miles off the coast of Yunlin County Monday, Taiwan’s Maritime and Port Bureau said Tuesday.

The man was one of four who fell from the Vietnamese-flagged VIMC Sunrise, with the National Rescue Command Center saying Tuesday morning that the bulk cargo vessel had already located and that three other crew members had been rescued by the VIMC Sunrise on its own.

As of press time, the CGA and the National Airborne Service Corps. sent ships and helicopters to search for the fourth crew member on the spot, but to no avail due to the bad weather.

Meanwhile, the VIMC Sunrise has anchored at the Port of Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan.

The three rescued Vietnamese crew members, two with broken feet and the other with broken arms, have been sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Search for the missing crew member will continue into the coming days, the CGA said.
