The head of Taiwan's Strait Exchange Foundation (SEF), Tien Hung-mao, has suggested a meeting with his Chinese counterpart on the outlying island of Kinmen. The SEF is a semi-official organization in charge of cross-strait relations in the absence of official ties with Mainland China.
During an address to members of the press, Tien said he is seeking an opportunity to meet with his Chinese counterpart, Chen Deming, in an effort to push forward cross-strait ties, which have been frozen since President Tsai Ing-wen took office.
Though not an official invitation, Tien said he would like Chen to consider his offer of a meeting. Kinmen is an Taiwanese-administered island off the southeast coast of China and a historically important location for cross-strait exchanges.
