Sep 05, 2018 Business & Finance Comments Off on Seven more dengue fever cases reported in Taiwan
Taipei, recorded another seven cases of dengue fever Wednesday, bringing the total number so far this year to 81 and prompting stronger calls by the relevant authorities for greater public cooperation to prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne disease in the peak season.
The seven new patients, six in Taichung and one in Kaohsiung, are between the ages of 40 and 70, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
CDC Deputy Director-General Philip Lo (???) said one of the six patients in Taichung is a woman in her 60s who developed symptoms of the disease on Aug. 15 and failed to report that she had contracted dengue fever.
Lo called on the public to be more cooperative with the government's efforts to control the disease at a time when it has already spread to 9 districts in Taichung, the city with the highest number of cases this year.
Failure to report a dengue infection could result in a fine of NT$3,000 (US$97.5) to NT$15,000, he warned.
In Kaohsiung, meanwhile, the most recent case was a man in his 50s who fell ill on Sept. 1 and was diagnosed with Type 3 dengue fever, Lo said. The 25 people who had come in contact with the man were reached by health personnel and were found not to have any dengue symptoms, Lo said.
The confirmation of the seven most recent dengue cases brought the total number so far this year to 81 across the country-- 46 in Taichung, 26 in New Taipei, four in Kaohsiung, two each in Taipei and Chiayi County, and one in Taoyuan, according to the CDC.
