Comments Off on Shanghai delegation departs at end of twin-city forum
Taipei, Shanghai Executive Vice Mayor Zhou Bo returned to China Thursday after concluding a twin-city forum with Taipei earlier in the day.
When Zhou and his 135-member delegation arrived at Taipei Songshan Airport, two groups of protesters -- those for and against unification with China -- were shouting at each other.
During the protest, one demonstrator felt ill and was taken to hospital, while airport police arrested seven others.
Due to the incidents, Zhou canceled a speech he was scheduled to give at the airport.
After the forum opened Thursday morning, Zhou visited a daycare center for senior citizens at a public housing project in Songshan District and commended Taipei for its care of the elderly.
