Taipei, An army serviceman suffered multiple injuries at a military base in Kaohsiung on Wednesday, when he was knocked down by a tank, the Army said.
The 23-year-old corporal was carrying out maintenance work on the front of the armored vehicle when it rolled forward and struck him, knocking him unconscious, according to a statement issued by the 8th Army Corps, under which he serves.
The corporal was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later regained consciousness and was being treated for injuries to his abdomen and back, the Army said.
The statement did not give any further details about the accident, except to say that it was being investigated.
According to local media reports, the armored vehicle was a CM11 battle tank and there was someone in the driver's seat at the time of the accident.
The injured soldier serves in the 564th Armored Brigade of the 8th Army Corps, according to the Army.
