Oct 24, 2018Business & FinanceComments Off on Super Typhoon Yutu unlikely to affect Taiwan
Taipei, The odds are slim that Typhoon Yutu will affect Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said as it turned into a super typhoon on Wednesday morning.
CWB forecaster Lin Po-tung (???) said the typhoon is set to veer north at sea and head north of Japan's Ryukyu Islands, adding that although it is unlikely to impact Taiwan, coastal areas will still see high waves as the typhoon approaches.
As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, Yutu was located 2,900 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi, the southern most tip of Taiwan, moving at a speed of 19 kilometers per hour in a west-northwest direction, carrying maximum sustained winds of 198 kph and gusts of up to 245 kph, according to CWB.
