Nov 15, 2018 Medical & Health Care Comments Off on Taichung flora expo to be closed on election day: official
Taipei, The Taichung World Flora Exposition will be closed on Nov. 24, the day when voters nationwide will go to the polls to elect local government chiefs and other officials, a city government official said Thursday.
All three venues of the international flora expo will be shut down on election day to ensure the voting rights of the workers, said Kuo Kun-ming (???), deputy secretary-general of Taichung City government and CEO of the expo.
The flora expo, which is being held Nov. 3 to April 24, 2019 in the central Taiwan city, will reopen the day after the elections, Kuo said.
During the first 10 days of the Taichung exposition, it attracted 626,180 visitors, according to Wang Yi-chuan (???), head of the city's Transportation Bureau.
He said the number is expected to rise sharply in the months ahead as schools go into winter vacation and with the Lunar New Year holiday coming up in February.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, the expo will be closed for one day only, on Feb. 4, according to Kuo.
Organized by the city government, the flora exposition is being held at three different venues -- Waipu Park, Fengyuan Huludun Park, and Houli Horse Ranch and Forest Park.
Spread across a total of 60.88-hectares, it showcases some 2,500 plant species, with a focus on emerging environmental concepts and solutions.
