Taipei, A special prize draw is being offered to users of the public bicycle rental service YouBike in Taipei from March 20 to the end of May, the city's Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.
For every 10 rides paid for with Easy Card before May 31 users will automatically be entered in a prize draw, with gifts ranging from Apple's iPhone X to free souvenir Easy Cards with a stored value of NT$500, it said.
The giveaway is being held to celebrate the rental service's approaching milestone of 100 million rides.
As of Tuesday morning, the number of YouBike rides stood at 98.88 million, according to the transportation department.
Furthermore, from April 1 riders in Taipei will receive a NT$5 discount if they use a Taipei city bus or the mass rapid transit (MRT) system within one hour of returning their bike.
In addition, those who transfer from buses and MRT trains to YouBike within one hour will not have to pay for the first 30 minutes of their YouBike ride in the city, it explained.
Meanwhile, speaking at the press announcement in Taipei, Mayor Ko Wen-je (???) said the bicycle rental service is the pride of the city, because it highlights the public spiritedness of Taipei residents.
The city currently provides about 13,000 bicycles as part of the YouBike service at 400 rental stations throughout Taipei, according to the mayor.
