Taiwan adds table tennis silver, shooting bronze to Deaflympics medal haul

Taiwan brought their medal haul at the Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, Brazil to five Friday after 16-year-old shooter Hsu Ming-rui (???) bagged a bronze in the men’s 10m air pistol event, while the men’s table tennis team took home silver.

Taiwan’s medal tally at the 24th Deaflympics now stands at two silver and three bronze medals.

After whitewashing Kazakhstan 3-0 in the semifinals, Taiwan’s men’s table tennis team fell just short in Friday’s final against Ukraine after they were edged out 3-2.

This was the team’s fifth consecutive final appearance at the Deaflympics, with the perennial contenders taking home gold in 2005, 2009, and 2013.

Taiwan’s other medal win on Friday came at the hands of teenage newcomer Hsu, who bagged the bronze with a 212.8-point finish in his first-ever Deaflympics appearance.

Taiwan’s previous medal wins came at the hands of shooter Kao Ya-ju (???) who won Taiwan’s first silver medal on Thursday in the women’s 10m air pistol event, which was preceded by a bronze medal wins in the mixed-gender badminton event and the men’s team event in karate kata.

The Caxias do Sul Deaflympics is being held from May 1 to 15.
