Taipei, Taiwan won the LLB Junior League Baseball Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament in China's Shandong Province Sunday, beating Guam, and will progress to the LLB World Series in the United States next month.
The Taiwanese team got off to a good start with a 4-0 lead over Guam in the first inning and cruised to victory 15-1 in five innings, winning a berth in the world series scheduled for Aug. 11-18 in Taylor, Michigan.
A day earlier, Taiwan beat New Zealand in the semifinal of the regional tournament.
Taiwan is represented in the tournament by a team from Hsin Ming Junior High School in Taoyuan.
The team's head coach, Huang Wei-chih noted that the school has won the world championship of the LLB Junior League Baseball World Series for six years in a row since 2013.
The Junior League World Series is a baseball tournament for children aged 13-15 years old. It is held annually at Heritage Park in Taylor and is patterned after the Little League World Series.
