Taipei, The 2018 Taiwan - ASEAN - India Strategic Investment Partnership Forum was held Tuesday in Taipei, with business representatives from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries meeting with business leaders from Taiwan and India to promote investment.
According to a Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) press release Tuesday, about 500 people attended the event.
On the sidelines of the forum, participating countries' exhibition booths were set up to provide face-to-face consultation services in the hope of strengthening Taiwan's investment strategic partnership with ASEAN and India.
MOEA Deputy Minister Kung Ming-hsin (???), said in a speech that India with a population of 1.35 billion and ASEAN with a population of 630 million are the world's second and third largest markets, respectively.
Citing a last year's report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the average economic growth rate of the 10 ASEAN countries over the next five years will be 5.2 percent, while growth in India is expected to reach as high as 7.3 percent, Kung said.
These are areas that cannot be ignored in the overseas investment plans of Taiwanese businesses, Kung added.
At present, Taiwan has investment contact windows to assist Taiwanese businesses invest in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Myanmar and India, Kung said.
Trade is also promoted in these countries by establishing Taiwanese themed pavilions at exhibitions and Taiwan orientated expos, Kung pointed out.
The MOEA's Industrial Development Bureau is also focusing on these countries by organizing bilateral summits designed to promote industrial chain related cooperation, Kung said.
