Taipei, The 11th Taiwan International Documentary Festival will show 170 films from around the world from May 4-13, organizers said Thursday.
The festival will screen films such as American director Travis Wilkerson's "Did You Wonder Who Fired the Gun?," Chilean director Ignacio Aguero's "This Is the Way I Like It II" and Japanese director Go Takamine's "Queer Fish Lane."
Israeli director Amos Gitai's "West of the Jordan River" and American director Jay Rosenblatt's short experimental documentary "The Kodachrome Elegies" will also be showcased at the festival, according to the organizers.
The 170 films will be shown at Shin Kong Cinemas and SPOT Huashan cinema in Taipei, as well as Fuzhong 15 documentary cinema in New Taipei.
On Thursday, festival organizers also announced that Taiwanese environmental documentary filmmaker Ke Chin-Yuan (???) would receive the festival's outstanding contribution award this year.
Born in 1962 in Shengang township, Changhua County, Ke purchased his first camera in the 1980s and used it to record the natural scenery of Taiwan.
He joined Taiwan's Public Television Service in 1998, and has since taken more than 200,000 images of the environment and completed 27 environmental documentary films, including "Remember the Coral Reef" (2004), "Song of the Forest" (2010) and "Water is Life" (2015).
"Ke's films are never loud and noisy. Instead, they display great compassion through silence, and a sense of everlasting hope," judge Sylvia Feng (???) said.
Ke's latest film, "Go Forward" (??), which reflects on the environmental movement in Taiwan over the past three decades, will have its world premiere at the festival on May 13.
