The defense ministry says that China's aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, entered Taiwan's air defense identification zone on Saturday afternoon shortly after 4pm local time. Authorities say the ship was traveling along the medial line that bisects the Taiwan Strait. It is expected to leave Taiwan's air defense identification zone at around 8:30pm on Sunday night.
The ministry said that in keeping with regulations, it scrambled jets and naval vessels to monitor the ship's movements.
The defense ministry called on to the public to remain calm.
It said that it will continue to monitor the situation and that so far no irregularities have been observed.
