Taipei, Executive Yuan Minister without Portfolio Audrey Tang (??) used a pre-recorded video to discuss social innovations in Taiwan at the World Urban Forum 9, held from Feb. 7-13 in Malaysia.
Tang uploaded a video, two photos and published a post on her Facebook account on Tuesday, noting that she was very pleased to have been invited to discuss trends in social innovation in Taiwan at the event which was organized by UN-Habitat.
The organizer is a United Nations program working towards achieving adequate shelter for all and a better urban future with a mission to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlement development, according to its website.
Social enterprises solve social problems through business models, said Tang in the video. She also introduced related innovations in Taiwan, including the setting up of the Social Innovation Lab.
Whether breakthroughs in social enterprise development or social innovation, Taiwan has much to share with the rest of the world, said Tang in her Facebook post.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations are not only the common pursuit of all mankind, but have also become an opportunity for Taiwan to contribute to the international community and strengthen cross-border links, she said.
Tang's video for this year's World Urban Forum was shown at one of the forum's workshops, said one of her staff members.
Taiwan's International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) was also invited to attend a side meeting at the World Urban Forum where it shared a film on a cooperative program initiated by ICDF in Belize to promote tourism by helping the country restore monuments and integrate them with the surrounding environment.
The World Urban Forum brings together government officials, non-government officials and experts to discuss issues relating to urban sustainable development.
At the end of December 2017, Tang also attended an U.N. forum, that Taiwan's representatives are not allowed to attend in person, by means of a remote broadcast.
The U.N. does not recognize Taiwan and Tang is unable to enter the U.N. office in Geneva using her Taiwan passport.
The first World Urban Forum, which is a biannual event, was held in 2002 in Nairobi, Kenya.
