Taiwan pool player Chen Chia-hua wins Predator Canada Open

Taiwanese pool player Chen Chia-hua (???) edged out her British opponent Allison Fisher in a 3-2 shootout Saturday to win the Women’s Professional Billiard Association’s (WPBA) Predator Canada Open.

Chen, 22, defeated fellow Taiwanese Hung Meng-hsia (???) in the semifinals to advance to the championship against Fisher, a 52-year-old WPBA hall of famer known as the “Duchess of Doom.”

In the final, Chen rallied back from a 0-2 deficit to take the first set 4-2, before losing the second set 0-4 to a dominant Fisher.

In the resulting four-inning shootout, Fisher fell behind after missing her first shot, while Chen sank three in a row to coast to a 3-2 victory.

“I really can’t believe it, I’m so happy,” Chen said in an interview after the match. “This is the first (international) competition I’ve played in since the start of the pandemic, and I never imagined that I would win.”

Chen, who is not currently ranked in the WPBA’s top 100 women’s players, previously won the 2018 WPA World Nine-Ball Junior Championship and the 2019 Japan Open, but has not played competitively for the past two years.
