Taipei Taiwan saw its last chance of reaching a final at the 2020 Thailand Masters disappear Saturday when the men's doubles team of Lee Jhe-huei and Yang Po-hsuan fell in their semifinal match.
Lee and Yang, ranked 30th in the world in men's doubles and unseeded in Thailand, lost to world no. 20 Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi of Malaysia 21-17, 21-14 in a match that lasted only 25 minutes.
The Taiwanese pair ushered in the Lunar New Year by easily defeating Chang Tak Ching and Yeung Ming Nok from Hong Kong 21-8, 21-11 in the quarterfinals a day earlier.
Chang and Yeung reached the quarterfinals by getting past the No. 1 seeds, Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin of Taiwan, on Thursday after Lee had to pull out just four minutes into the match with a left knee injury.
Neither of Taiwan's top singles players, Tai Tzu-ying on the women's side or Chou Tien-chen on the men's side, were entered in the singles events in Thailand.
