Taipei, Taiwanese badminton player Chou Tien-chen (???) advanced to the semifinals of the men's singles at the US$600,000 Korea Open after defeating Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia 21-13, 21-11 in the quarterfinals Friday.
In a match that lasted 39 minutes, the world No. 4 Chou started slowly, trailing Ginting 10-9 midway through the first game. But he ran off seven consecutive points to snatch the opener.
He scored another eight consecutive points in the second game to win it 21-11, sending him into a semifinal encounter Saturday against world No. 10 Kenta Nishimoto of Japan.
Meanwhile, Taiwan mixed doubles team Lee Yang (??) and Hsu Ya-ching (???) lost to second seeds Mathias Christiansen and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark 21-15, 21-14 in their quarterfinal match.
