More and more fireflies have appeared in the nights of April in the Great Alishan Region. This is the perfect month to take a leisurely evening walk and watch the little insects shine in the Alishan National Scenic Area.
This year, a mascot called “Junior” is launched by the ANSA Administration to promote firefly conservation and firefly walks in Alishan. It advocates the following rules, “No flashlight, no shouting, no catching-the-fireflies, and no trash”, so as to protect the firefly habitats. One “Firefly-watching Walk” will be respectively held on April 26 & 29, as well as May 13. All members of the public are welcome to take part. Ecological tourism has been an emphasis for the ANSA Administration. “We hope to promote ecological package tours in the Great Alishan Region with local B&Bs and other tourism businesses,” an officer of the Alishan National Scenic Area Administration said. “We look forward to presenting our effort in nature conservation to visitors, no matter they have come here by car or public transport.” To learn more about the firefly walks, please visit http://www.program01.com.tw/2014firefly/ (in Chinese).
