President Tsai Ing-wen has attended the inauguration of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega on the second stop of her trip to Central America.
Ortega was sworn in on Tuesday in a ceremony held at Revolution Square in the Nicaraguan capital Managua. Tsai was one of five heads of state in attendance. During a speech after the inauguration ceremony, Ortega recognized Tsai by name as Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan.
Before the ceremony began, Tsai spoke with the presidents of Honduras and El Salvador, two other Taiwanese allies in Central America that are also part of Tsai's itinerary. Bolivian President Evo Morales also spoke to Tsai during the inauguration program.
On Wednesday, Tsai traveled to Guatemala for a meeting withGuatemalan President Jimmy Morales.
