President Tsai Ing-wen is set to embark on a nine day trip to four of Taiwan's Latin American allies. She leaves on January 7 to visit Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador. She will also transit through the US, stopping briefly in Houston and San Francisco on her way to and from Taiwan.
In addition to attending state banquets and meeting with allied leaders, Tsai will also attend the inauguration of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega Saavedra.
Tsai will meet with representatives from local Taiwanese communities, tour cultural sites, and review progress on cooperative projects Taiwan has undertaken with its allies.
In Guatemala, President Tsai will present a donation of medicine and schoolbags for a local community. Tsai will also be honored with national medals from Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales and Salvadoran President Salvador Sanchez Ceren.
Tsai is scheduled to return to Taiwan on January 15.
