Uni-President to open its 10,000th 7-Eleven

The Uni-President Enterprises Corp. announced the opening of its 10,000th 7-Eleven store Friday, with the company saying the landmark franchise will be located in founder Kao Ching-yuen’s (???) hometown of Tainan in southern Taiwan.

In a news release, the country’s largest food and beverage conglomerate said the Yawan (????) store in city’s Anping District would commemorate Uni-President’s roots and keep Kao’s legacy alive as the business group continues its global expansion.

Since opening Taiwan’s first 7-Eleven outlet in Zhongshan District, Taipei, on Feb. 9, 1980, Uni-President has gone on to open branches in Shanghai and Zhejiang in China, as well as the Philippines, where the group operates more than 3,000 stores, according to the company’s most recent financial report.

The Yawan outlet, scheduled to open on July 12, incorporates environmental design elements through the installation of solar power panels and battery and plastic recycling facilities, according to Uni-President.

7-Eleven is the world’s largest chain of convenience stores, with more than 77,000 outlets worldwide as of January, according to QSR magazine.
