Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced that those who make payments at any of the city’s 12 sports centers with Taipei Card through the end of November will receive points that can be redeemed as EasyCard stored value.
The mayor pointed out that Taipei is a healthy city with many exercise-enthusiastic residents. The public sports centers report an average of 1 million visits per month. To encourage participation in sports activities, the Department of Health, the Department of Sports, and the EasyCard Corporation joined hands to launch the campaign with a funding of NT$1 million. Individuals making a payment at the sports centers will earn 20 points; a maximum of 480 points a year can be issued for a single Taipei Card holder. Those between 30 and 44 years old will have their points doubled for each payment; this is a part of the organizers’ measure to spur this relatively inactive group to take more exercise. As a person who exercises on a regular basis, Hau hopes that the campaign will help boost the city residents’ exercise rates and make residents healthier.
