Jul 31, 2017 Medical & Health Care Comments Off on Vietnam a great market for YouBike
Vietnam may be the next great market for Taipei's public bike system, the YouBike. That was the word from Taiwan External Trade Development Council Chairman James Huang.
Taiwan just ended its Taiwan Expo 2017 in Vietnam. The 3-day exhibit saw 24,000 visitors and US$27 million in business opportunities.
Vietnam is the country with the second densest population of motor scooter users, after Taiwan. The Vietnam government does not like the impact on the environment and may ban scooters in the future. That's why Taipei's successful Ubike system is eyeing Vietnam as its next potential market.
YouBike Operations Manager Su Shen Hsiung said that Ubike is already set in Taiwan and China's Fujian province. Now it's looking to Southeast Asia and Vietnam as a new market. It is building a metro that will be ready in two years. A public bike system would be a great way to link the city with its bus and metro systems.
Su said however that there were no concrete results from discussions regarding YouBike in Vietnam. The plan would need to be supported by the local government if it were to go ahead. If the government supports it, YouBike could set up 200 stations there which would mean business opportunities worth US$10 million.
